It's been some time since I last posted. I started a new job - I'm very excited and grateful for it. But, there are days when I feel like the kids I used to tutor at 826LA - working on lots of homework and just trying to get through it. I'm dedicating this post to volunteering at 826LA. I already miss working with the kids. They are a smart, creative, high energy, resilient bunch. I truly feel lucky I was able to spend as much as I did with the organization. 826 focuses on developing writing, and storytelling is a subject close to my heart. The face-to-face interaction is what made my 3-hours a week so satisfying. A lot of times, the kids were teaching me something or saying something that I would never expect. On my last day of tutoring I told two of the girls who sat at my table that it was my final time to see them. Both gave me a hug and thanked me for being their tutor.
